This is about my personal journey past Fashion, into Image. With the growing number of Fashion Stylists, Fashion Writers, Fashion Bloggers, Fashion Show Producers in East Africa, I felt the need to yet again re-invent myself. This time; as an Image Consultant. So one day I packed my bags, and went to a country I had never been to, a country where I knew no-one and to one of the most expensive countries in the world, Singapore.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Through Luck, or Fate, I came across Lynne Marks of the London Image Insitute, a notable Image Consultant worldwide, and got to learn that she, alongside Sonya Barnes, of Harris and Barnes Image Consultancy, offer training for aspiring Image Consultants. Having tried and failed to get a UK and US visa for the course, I ended up going to Singapore, where one more trainer was involved, Christina Ong of The Academy of Image Mastery.
Part I – The Academy of Image Mastery Foundation Training
This part of the course was full of ‘aha’ moments, where we were being taught all the basics on colour, bodyline and style, wardrobe management. men’s image as well as hair and make-up. It was a fun hands-on practical experience with invaluable information, tips and tricks you cannot get from any book or website.
Everyone was forever busy doing one thing or the other:
And, we had to close with a little celebration!

Part II – The London Image Institute Advanced Training
This is where you put your money where your mouth is. We got to learn the business and corporate aspect of Image Consultancy. It worked well to help us make sense of the practical aspect that we had previously been taught. We were given so much invaluable information, I am still going through it today – and I know it shall be a life-long source and guide for me as an image consultant.

Graduation
Our tiny ‘informal’ graduation ceremony was amazing, as well as moving, for we had to leave soon after. It was also a celebration on Lynne marks’ London Image Institute 25year anniversary. What can be better than have someone who has been in the industry literally all your life train you.

Hello Olive :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on you being certified and moving to a greater career :) I too, am interested to become an image consultant and was planning to take up the foundation and advanced course offered by AIM in Singapore next year. I was just wondering how expensive it is and is it ok for me to join this course since I have not got any experience in the fashion industry. In short, I wanted to make a big makeover of myself first, then later help other people transform themselves too :)I came across your blog when I was searching for Image Asia and thought maybe you could advise me on this.. :) Thank you very much for your feedback :) -Rohaya-
Hello Rohaya,
ReplyDeleteImage Consultancy is indeed a fulfilling career to venture into. The course is slightly on the expensive side, but totally worth your while. Plus, you get your own personal make-over during the course by your image trainers!!! You do not need any fashion experience, to become an image consultant, but however an eye for fashion is key. You could use your time between now and then to take a keener interest on fashion-related fields. However, you need not worry, as the Image Asia Training will give you everything you need to become a successful image consultant.
I hope this helps, and I wish you all the best.
Olive.
